Suffolk 5K Race

It has been a while since I have posted. I went on a two week vacation to celebrate my first wedding anniversary 🙂 We went to Florida for a few days, then took a seven day cruise to the Caribbean. The weather was beautiful! After my vacation, I felt like a needed a another week off to recover from all the fun and late nights.

Instead, I jumped right back into weightlifting and running. John and I ran the Suffolk University family/alumni weekend 5K. We ran this race two years ago, and decided to run it again this year. I am an alumni, so it is always great to participate in family weekend and give back to the school.

MR8K Race

On September 2nd (Labor Day), my husband and I ran the MR8K race for the Martin Richard Foundation. Martin was the youngest person to be killed in the Boston Marathon bombings six years ago. This was the second annual race for the foundation.

The race was five miles. It started at the Boston Bruins practice facility, the Warrior Ice Arena. It went around Brighton, up some steep hills, and finished at the arena. The weather was perfect running weather: in the high 60’s with sun and clouds.

Healthy Fast Food Options

Have you ever drove by a fast food restaurant because you assume they don’t have any “healthy” food options? I know I have. I did that when I first started my fitness journey. I didn’t want to eat at a fast food restaurant because I figured there would be no meals that I would find to fit into my diet.

Growing up, my weekly Friday night ritual was going to McDonald’s for a Happy Meal. The toys were the best part of the meal! When I was in high school, I would buy the chicken ranch salad. I didn’t eat at any other fast food place other than McDonald’s because they had the best salad. 🙂

Homemade Granola

Granola is a delicious treat that is added to my daily Greek yogurt snack. I used to buy name-brand granola until one day I read the ingredients and noticed there was so much sugar in a small serving. You don’t realize how much added sugar and random ingredients are thrown into granola until you read the fine print.

One day I decided to make my own granola, and I have been making my own for a few years now. Let me tell you, I have not bought name-brand granola since. I enjoy making my own because I know what ingredients is being put into it. It is important to know what you are eating. Also, I can make as much as I want!

Quest Squad Ambassador

Quest Nutrition has been my favorite protein bars and powder since I started my fitness journey in 2015. I first learned about their products on social media. I bought a few bars to try (strawberry cheesecake, cookies & cream, and lemon to be exact), and was hooked ever since.

When I found out I was a member of the Quest Squad, I was ecstatic! My favorite nutrition brand wanted me on their ambassador team. I have been trying for a few years now to become a Quest Squad member. It took awhile, but hey it happened 🙂

Snack: Rice Cakes

The mornings during a work week can be difficult to have breakfast at home. Whether it is rushing out of the house to try to beat traffic, or you are simply running late, you are forced to grab your breakfast on the go or eat at work. Sometimes eating a trail mix bar or a fruit bar is not quite filling, nor is it nutritious.

I eat breakfast at work because I feel like it is easier to eat there than to scarf food down while rushing out the door. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You should sit down and enjoy it!

Finish At The 50 Race

For the past 10 years, Patriot Place has hosted the Harvard Pilgrim Finish At The 50 5K & 10K run at Gillette Stadium on July 3rd. The race kicks off Independence Day festivities. Not only do you run inside Gillette, you cross the finish line at the New England Patriots’ own 50 yard line! And there are fireworks after the race!

If you live in the New England area, I highly recommend running the Finish At The 50 race. It is one of the best races you will ever run. It is my favorite race, and I look forward to it every year.

This is my third year running the race. I ran it in 2016 and 2017. It is special to my husband John and I because John proposed to me after the race in 2017 at the 50 yard line! Now this race is a tradition for our household.

Candy Run Challenge

One of my favorite board games as a kid has come to life in the form of a running challenge! Virtual Run Challenge new challenge is the Candy Run Challenge. And yes, it comes with a board and a spinner!

This retro twist of a classic board game is a great way for you to get the whole family involved and motivated to get active. The adventure will take you on a sweet journey through the Candy Run maze, conquering mile after mile until you reach the Candy Castle to claim your throne as a Candy Run finisher! It is summer time (well at least here in New England 🙂 ) and the weather is starting to get beautiful! You can run or walk to achieve your daily distance.

Freedom 5K Race – Washington D.C.

My husband and I visited Washington D.C. this past weekend. It was my first time in D.C., so I wanted to make sure I saw everything 🙂 We went to seven museums: National Museum of Natural History, National Museum of American History, National Air & Space, Archives Museum, United States Holocaust Memorial, Newseum, and the Police Memorial. We saw The White House, The Capitol, the Pentagon, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, Arlington Cemetery, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. My Fitbit said I walked 11 miles the two days we toured around D.C.!

Quest Nutrition Protein Pancakes

Remember when you were younger and your parents said, “You cannot eat chocolate for breakfast!” Well now you can. And it is the good kind of chocolate, the chocolate that is packed with protein and nutrition.

I like to find recipes and turn them into a healthy dish. Scrambled eggs and turkey bacon is a tasty breakfast, but it gets boring after a while. One of the breakfast foods I crave is pancakes. Butter milk pancakes is not that great for you health wise, so I thought of how to turn that meal into a delicious nutrition breakfast dish.
